NEW STUDENT FAQ
What do I bring to my first class?
We suggest you wear a fitted shirt if possible in case we are learning cartwheels and handstands that day. Any yoga type pants or shorts will be fine as well. No shoes required as we train barefoot. Also bring a water bottle and small face cloth in case you want to wipe yourself down, YOU WILL SWEAT!
Are there separate classes for beginners?
Not unless noted on the schedule. We usually do the warm up and conditioning together and then the class is divided by level.
I've never tried Capoeira, is it ok if I come by to watch before taking a class?
Yes! We have many curious potential students who feel more comfortable observing a class before participating. This is totally fine with us! :)
Who are the teachers?
Mestre Mindinho teaches all classes unless he is traveling to teach a workshop outside of San Diego. He will have one of his trained, more advanced students lead the class in his absence.
How long are classes?
Classes are usually 1 1/2 hours. You will make a lot of new friends so you may want to account for 2 hours for after class chatting. After a good Capoeira class, it's hard to leave!!
Does the group gather for social events outside of class?
Yes! We are a big family at Capoeira Brasil San Diego, a.k.a. CBSD. Some students have been training together for over 10 years. You will be invited to many dinners, capoeira events within and outside of San Diego, fundraisers, etc. We welcome you as a new student and look forward to getting to know you!
